Icon of the Savior

On 6 August we celebrated the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, in which we venerate Our Lord Jesus Christ. The Monastery is under his invocation. Our Chapter Room is presided over by a Russian icon of Christ the Pantocrator, that is, of Christ in majesty. This icon comes from the St. Alexander Nevsky Monastery in St. Petersburg.

According to Byzantine tradition, the face and hand are painted and the rest of the body can be sculpted. The material is wood covered with a light metal for the sculpted parts. Christ in attitude of blessing as we celebrate it on the Feast of Transfiguration.
