Vocation
“Do not grant newcomers to the monastic life an easy entry, but, as the Apostle says, Test the spirits to see if they are from God. The concern must be whether the novice truly seeks God and whether he shows eagerness for the Work of God, for the obedience and for trials"
With these words, Saint Benedict exhorts his monks in Chapter 58 of the Rule dedicated to admission of candidates.
The first steps of a vocation begin with a time of discernment that helps the candidate and the community to get to know each other. After this discernment, the candidate is invited to enter the community and begin his formation.
Given the characteristics of our community of Monte Irago, namely being a dependent house of the Abbey of St. Ottilien, the actual formation stage (novitiate, profession ...) takes place in the Abbey. There this process culminates for the candidate in proclaiming the vows before of the Abbot and the community. Through the profession of the vows of stability, obedience and conversion of life the candidate binds himself for his lifetime to this community.
